Specific purposes (1) To produce various sounds to accompany music.
• The children hit and shake the tambourine to produce sounds.
(2) To use a tambourine for physical expression.
• The children hit and shake the tambourine to physically express themselves in various ways.
Considerations for disability characteristics This tambourine can be used in various activities related to physical expression, such as music and physical education.
The targets and disability considerations are not limited. However, because children usually need to hold a tambourine with one hand to produce sounds, a certain level of arm strength and grip strength is required.
Expected effects and results Use of a tambourine with the child’s favorite shape motivated the child to play the tambourine. It improved the children’s coordination: for example, they were able to play the tambourine in synchrony with sounds. In addition, it improved their motor functions such as the ability to wave their arms and move their wrists.
How to use Prepare a commercially available, flower-shaped monkey tambourine. Use scissors to cut sparkling wires (which are often used for decorating Christmas trees) to fit the circumference of the tambourine, and attach them to the tambourine with double-sided tape. The largest part of each of the sets of cymbals on the flower-shaped tambourine is located inside the tambourine; therefore, the tambourine is safe even if it comes into contact with others. The pipe cleaners attached to the tambourine make it more eye-catching, because they reflect light when the tambourine is played outside.
The tambourine can be played in the same way as normal tambourines, by being hit with the hand or waved with the wrist.
