Disability category | mentally challenged physically challenged multiple disabilities |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | activities for independent living pre-school education |
Specific purposes | To allow children to enjoy the sensation of throwing a ball covered in Velcro (loop side) against quilted fabric also covered in Velcro (hook side) and then pulling the ball off. |
Considerations for disability characteristics | Even children with weak fingertips are able to grip, throw and turn the ball. Children are also able to experience the sensation of pulling the ball off of the Velcro. |
Expected effects and results | Children enjoy the feeling of the soft, puffy ball, as well as experience the crackling sensation of slowly pulling the ball free. |
How to use |
The teacher makes a target by wrapping the cloth around themselves, hanging it on a wall or laying it on the floor. The children throw the ball at the target. The belt can be used alone and can replace a datejime (a type of belt worn around a kimono). |
