Disability category | physically challenged |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | technical arts and home economics teaching and learning tools, auxiliary aids |
Specific purposes | ◎To enable children to hand-stitch (normal stitching) cloth together |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
・Angle and height can be adjusted to make it easier for children ・Familiar, everyday items are used to make setup quick and easy |
Expected effects and results | ・Enables children to use one hand to hand-stitch (normal stitching) cloth held upright, even when the teacher is not nearby |
How to use |
・Prepare two bookends, two large clips (or laundry pins) and curing tape ・Clip the cloth to the bookends on either side of the area to be hand-stitched (normal stitching). Adjust the setup to a height and angle which is easy for the student to move with his or her hand (e.g., near to and slightly below his or her sewing hand). ・Have the student sit at his or her desk, set the bookends so that the front and back (left and right) of the cloth are as visible as possible, and use the curing tape to tape them into place. ・Have the student use one hand to push a needle with a knotted thread through the front of the cloth and out the back, and then through the back and out the front, repeating this several times. |
