Name of teaching material
Target | Young children and students who have insufficient understanding of color matching. |
---|---|
Disability category | mentally challenged |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | activities for independent living teaching and learning tools, auxiliary aids |
Specific purposes |
・ To enable children to find a piece of the same color as its matching piece in the frame and fit the pieces together correctly ・ To teach children to recognize a mistake and try again to fit a piece to its correct partner in the frame |
Considerations for disability characteristics | The pieces and the holes in the frame are made in a trapezoid shape so that young children also have to pay attention to the shape (top and bottom) of the pieces when fitting them into the holes. Each bottom piece has two pegs that fit into two holes in the back of the corresponding top piece. A piece thus fits perfectly into its partner when the correct colors are matched. If a piece is placed wrongly, the fit will not be perfect. The teaching material is made with the expectation that young children will notice the mistake, try to fit the piece again, and feel a sense of achievement when they find the correct place. |
Expected effects and results |
・ Young children will be able to learn on their own by recognizing their mistakes; this promotes their understanding of color matching. ・ The teacher can also say the name of each color so that the children can learn it. |
How to use |
・ The place in the frame where a particular color piece needs to fitted can be freely changed by moving the bottom pieces around. ・ The pieces are created in more than 10 colors. Therefore, the different-colored pieces can be used to create a variety of color-matching tasks and used to learn new color names. |
Related teaching materials and information |
