Name of teaching material
Target | For kindergartners attending regular kindergartens to developmentally disabled kindergartners (kindergarten level) |
---|---|
Disability category | mentally challenged developmental disabilities |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | pre-school education |
Specific purposes |
・To help children confirm their individual assigned tasks, such as preparation for school mealtime. ・To help children invite the friends they recognize based upon the list. ・To give children a sense of responsibility about performing assigned tasks. |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
・Because each child draws their own portrait, it is easy for them to find their card. ・Because the written text is accompanied by pictures, it is effective for use with kindergartners who are more visually oriented. ・Because the order of assignments runs from top to bottom, it is easy for children to visualize the overall flow. |
Expected effects and results |
he children would check the cards, seek out others with the same assigned task in other groups and then carry out the task together. The children who had checked the task assignment cards would approach those children who were focused on other activities. Instead of the teacher saying "your task is such-and-such," he or she would say, "check the assignment cards" to encourage self-motivation. This proved to be a helpful tool for the entire class, regardless of disabilities. |
How to use |
Place the cards in a place which is easy for the children to check by themselves. Either the teacher or the child finished with the assigned task should move the clothes pin marking the assigned task to the side of the portrait of a friend who will be responsible for the task next time. |
