Specific purposes |
To enable children to: --learn two-word phrases including action words, such as “sit on-the-chair” --improve their everyday communication skills |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
Illustrations are employed to explain in simple terms what is being done, and to make it easier for the children to speak, using visual information. Small cards with a missing action word and a velcro patch are used, so the target terms can be easily affixed and removed. |
Expected effects and results | Children can use two-word phrases including action words, and speak more frequently in everyday life. |
How to use |
◯ Considerations in producing the teaching material ◯ Laminated cards are used, for repeated use. Appropriate non-action terms are written on each picture card (e.g., “on-the-chair”, for “sit”), with a Velcro patch in the space reserved for the missing action word. ◯ Procedure ◯ (1) The teacher shows a picture card and affixes the appropriate action-word card, then reads aloud the full phrase. (2) The teacher places several picture cards side by side, and the child selects the appropriate action-word card and affixes it in the proper place. (See the illustration below.) Note: The teacher gives a picture card to the child beforehand. From several small action-word cards, he/she selects the appropriate card and affixes it to the picture card. This teaching material can be applied to any task. The children can learn in variety of ways. |
