Name of teaching material
Target | Children who have difficulty in holding or gripping a pen and moving their arms. |
---|---|
Disability category | mentally challenged physically challenged health impairment multiple disabilities |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | drawing and crafts, art activities for independent living instruction of play teaching and learning tools, auxiliary aids |
Specific purposes | Children will be able to draw a line only by touching the hemispherical case without the need to hold or grab the pen. |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
• Children do not need to hold the pen because the pen does not fall over but remains upright. • Children who can exert only very light pen pressure only have to touch and move the hemispherical case to draw a line. |
Expected effects and results |
Children will be able to: • draw a line without holding the pen • move the pen (case) at will. |
How to use |
(1) Insert a pen into the hole at the top of the hemispherical case. Note that the tip of the pen needs to be adjusted to a position slightly longer than the radius of the case. (2) Place the wobbling pen on paper, such as drawing paper. (3) Touch and move the case. |
Related teaching materials and information |
• The wobbling pen was modified for easy fabrication from the original wobbling pen designed and produced by the Yamagata Prefectural Yukiwari School for Handicapped Children. • We used a transparent spherical container that was able to be cut in half (hemisphere) and a gel pen that enables people with very light pen pressure to draw. |
