Name of teaching material
Target |
Children and students who can move by themselves Children and students having poor fine motor skills |
---|---|
Disability category | deaf and hard of hearing mentally challenged physically challenged developmental disabilities |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | physical education special activities |
Specific purposes |
To facilitate children and students enjoy physical activities and cultivate abilities to: ・run fast, turn and dodge in order to escape from the opponent ・run after the opponent and steal his or her tail ・grasp the distance to the opponent, decide the direction to run, and adjust the speed |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
・A hoop attached to the tip of each tail facilitate children and students steal tails even when they have difficulty grasping an object. Players need not to firmly grasp opponent's tail but just to grab it. ・By using tails of different colors, they can play in teams. ・When the tail is stolen, the hook-and-loop fastener (Velcro) makes a sound and gives a feeling. So, it is easy to feel that the tail is stolen. ・The hoop is made using a strap and a buckle clasp that can alter the length of the strap. The hoop size can be adjusted to the size of each child/student and the wheelchair. |
Expected effects and results |
・The tails serve as the target to chase. ・Children/students can learn how to move their bodies by moving so as to avoid the tail being stolen. |
How to use |
Prepare the tails: 1) Attach the hook piece of hook-and-loop fastener to an end of a tail, which is made of cloth (In the photos shown above, square-shaped cloth pieces were used as tails). Select cloth colors that are easy to see. 2) Fold and sew the opposite end of the tail so that the strap can pass . 3) Pass the strap, and adjust the length. Fasten the buckle, and make a hoop. If the extra is too long, tie it to prevent it from being caught in the wheelchair's wheel, etc. Attach the tail to the back of each player . The inventor made children play "who can steal most tails" tag using the easy-to-steal tails within a basketball court. The tails can also be used in steal-tail tag, team tail tag, "sharks and minnows" and so on . |
