Considerations for disability characteristics | Students who cannot operate objects with their hands can hold the teaching material with their mouth. With only a slight movement, the spring bends and the rubber ball on the end of the stick beats and thins out the clay. |
Expected effects and results | Children will be able to create artworks by themselves by operating the teaching tool with the mouth to mold and shape clay. The children will be able to feel the impact from the beating of the clay via the vibration of the spring. |
How to use |
Before creating this teaching material, together with the students, we attempted to create a clay artwork by using existing tools (a wooden hammer, wooden spatula, spoon, etc.). However, all of these tools were difficult to use with the mouth. For this reason, I decided to develop a teaching tool that was easy to hold with the mouth and not too heavy, but with some weight and shape at the tip to enable it to beat and mold the clay. Preexisting materials were combined, and the shape of the handle that was to be held with the mouth was cut and shaped with a saw and a file. A highly flexible and elastic spring was used to connect the handle to a fairly hard rubber ball, which was attached to the tip of the tool. |
