Specific purposes |
The calendar summarizes each month and depicts what children did on the days in the months and seasonal features with photos, illustrations, and crafts. The calendar helps children: - Learn the flow of time and the seasons of a year in a visual manner - Review past experiences and have future prospectives - Share past experiences in a visual manner and “talk” about them with mates, etc. |
Considerations for disability characteristics | Page-a-day calendar is used for daily activities. The teacher “talks” with children on the activities they did and writes, draws, pastes photos of, etc., what they did on the page. The conversation with the children on what they did is part of information sharing, and the teacher should bear in mind to interact with the children so that the interaction as well as the experiences remain in their memory. |
Expected effects and results | At our school, visual sharing of annual events and daily activities has encouraged children to talk about what they did last year and what they will do next year with their parents and mates. The calendar has also increased their interests in seasons, such as spring, summer, autumn and winter, as well as their memories on their experiences. |
How to use |
1) As a daily activity, tear a page out of the page-a-day calendar, converse with children on the schedules of the day and experiences in the previous day/week, and write, draw, etc. on the pages. 2) When a month is over, bind the pages of the days of the month while talking with the children on what they did on the day/month. 3) With the children, post the bound pages of the calendar on classroom wall. (Also post the on-duty badges of the month.) 4) Review the activities the children experienced using the posted pages to remind their experiences and/or talk about coming events. |
