Target A child in the first grade of the elementary department who:
• was good at matching colors (numbers), saying the names (numbers) of the colors, and perceiving things through patterns, but not good at changing things
• had problems in using his fingers, such as pinching and coordinating both hands
Disability category mentally challenged autism
Teaching units / Applicable scenes activities for independent living
Specific purposes To enable the child to:
• do a task while interacting with the teacher
• stick a spoon firmly with both hands
Considerations for disability characteristics • To make it easier for the child to sense the spoons sticking, I made holes to stick the spoons a little smaller.
• Two rows of holes were prepared so that the teacher and the child could take turns sticking spoons to them.
Expected effects and results • Immediately understanding the intention of the task, the child took a spoon from the teacher and stuck it in the hole whose color (number) was the same as that of the spoon.
How to use 1. The teacher hands a spoon to a child.
• Hand the child a spoon of the color or number he or she asks for.
2. Urge the child to stick the spoon into the hole.
• Tell the child to stick the spoon with both hands, and help the child if needed.
Note: Repeat 1 and 2.
