Name of teaching material
Target |
A child in the third grade of the elementary division who: • was able to use his fingers skillfully: he was good at picking up tiles and arranging them • had difficulties arranging the numbers from 1 to 10 in numerical order |
---|---|
Disability category | mentally challenged autism |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | arithmetic, mathematics |
Specific purposes |
To enable the child to: • experience counting numbers one by one by using tiles • connect ordinal and cardinal numbers. |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
• The opening of the tray where the tiles were placed was made small so that the child had to concentrate on the task and look at his fingertips. • The framed tray prevented the tiles from being dispersed, thus enabling smooth implementation of the task. |
Expected effects and results | • The tile made a clicking sound when it contacted another tile or the tray frame. This clearly let the child know that the tile had been successfully been slid into place. |
How to use |
1. Together with the teacher, the child arranges the tiles and slides them into the frame while the teacher counts the numbers. 2. The teacher disarranges the tiles and then the child rearranges them in numerical order. 3. While counting the numbers, the child and the teacher confirm that the tiles are correctly arranged. |
