Name of teaching material
Target | • Students in the upper secondary division with intellectual disabilities |
---|---|
Disability category | mentally challenged |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | physical education instruction for living skills teaching and learning tools, auxiliary aids |
Specific purposes | • To tell students about the contents and goals of the day’s physical education, thus enabling them to understand what they were to do and to participate in classes while having their own goals. |
Considerations for disability characteristics | Information on what teachers regularly tell the students and confirm in class is posted on a notice board at the entrance to the school. Students can thus recognize it when they arrive at school. This enables the students to anticipate their daily activities. |
Expected effects and results | Students who had always come to the physical education teacher to confirm the content of the class started to check the notice board and set goals by themselves. They then shared the information they had obtained with each other. |
How to use |
• Files are used to make it possible to attach new information to the notice board. • In addition to events related to physical education, a countdown calendar for events that the students were looking forward to, and may have been feeling uneasy about, was posted. • The use of illustrations and photographs enabled students with difficulties in literal information to understand the information on the notice board. |
Related teaching materials and information | Illustrations from the visual aid symbol collection Drops were used. |
