Name of teaching material
Target | Students with intellectual disabilities (Slides were made for five students from the first to third grades of the lower secondary division and used in class.) |
---|---|
Disability category | mentally challenged |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | foreign languages |
Specific purposes | To enable the students to better understand the course content and actively participate in class by using visual means. |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
• The size of the characters and the amount of information are taken into consideration to make the slides easy to understand. • Colors are taken into consideration to make the combination of words and illustrations easy to understand. |
Expected effects and results | Music CDs were used in class. Slides were displayed on an electronic blackboard placed to the side at the front of the classroom, so that students were able to read the slides individually. As the students have become used to this system, they have become able to respond to the teacher’s words without looking at the slides. |
How to use |
• The teacher shows the slides. • Use a CD (“Head, Shoulders, and Knees;” lyrics: unknown, English folk song) to make it easier for the students to express themselves with looking at the slides. |
Related teaching materials and information | • Commercially available English song CDs |
