Disability category | visual impairment |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | science |
Specific purposes |
・To show how heated water moves. ・To show that the entirety heats up as the water moves. |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
・Easy to build using universally available materials. ・Enables students to complete an experiment all on their own. ・Uses vermilion-colored juice to make it readily visible for children with weak eyesight ・Good thermal conductivity of cups makes reaction easy to feel by hand. |
Expected effects and results | Answers the question of how heated water moves. |
How to use |
Teaching Material Creation-related Considerations Prepare cups which are suited to child-sized hands. For the mesh, screen door mesh is used. Usage When using the meshed cup, surface tension will keep the water from spilling out, even when the cup is inverted; so, hold the meshed cup in your dominant hand while supporting the bottom cup with your other hand. Once the surface of the water in the bottom cup comes into contact with the mesh of the inverted cup, the surface tension will be released and the warm water will begin to move. The change in water temperature of the moving water can be felt with the palm of the hands holding the cups. |
