Disability category | deaf and hard of hearing |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | instruction of play other |
Specific purposes |
Get children interested in song-based play accompanied by facial expressions and movement. Use animal movements and other interesting actions to help children understand the rhythm and lyrics of songs and to enjoy singing along. |
Considerations for disability characteristics | The use of animal hands and feet, full body movements, laughter, anger, crying and other facial expressions makes the song easier to understand visually as well as more enjoyable. |
Expected effects and results | The children were able to imitate the animal's expressions and clap along with the rhythm, as well as join in with their natural voices and movements. Each time the activity was repeated, the children would happily call out the main character's name ("Gon-chan") and joyfully interact with his paper puppet representation. The children were very expressive; for example, during a scene where Gon-chan's nose is running because he is crying, the children would tell him to "get a tissue for your nose." |
How to use | Make a paper puppet that captures the children's interest, and have the puppet interact with the children through a performance. When making the puppet, keep in mind such factors as the performance space, the number and ages of the children, the puppet's size and the puppet's coloring. |
