---|---|
Disability category | deaf and hard of hearing |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | foreign languages |
Specific purposes |
To enable students to: --understand how to form plural nouns --learn the rule for adding “es” or “s” to the end of a noun to form the plural --increase students’ knowledge of noun types |
Considerations for disability characteristics | How to add “s” or “es” to the end of a noun, and the different plural forms of nouns, are visually presented in an easy-to-understand manner. This helps students compensate for a lack of auditory information such as pronunciation and accents; and they can learn pluralization in a fun way. |
Expected effects and results | Students can learn the plural form of nouns in a game format. |
How to use |
This material is effective when used as an introductory class exercise; however, it can also be expanded to include writing, reading and other activities, after the game. Use English words in the textbook, as well as familiar words associated with daily life. Cover all English words that are pluralized by adding “s”, by adding “es”, or by replacing “y” with “i” and adding “es.” Use the cards in a group competition format. The team that comes up with the most pluralized English words wins the game. Tell the students to generate the pluralized words through group discussion. |
Related teaching materials and information | This exercise can also be used for learning past-tense verb forms, and comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs. |
