Children with visual impairment who can study school subjects on their own. Elementary division |
---|---|
Disability category | visual impairment |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | arithmetic, mathematics |
Specific purposes | To measure the length of objects around us |
Considerations for disability characteristics | A small piece of wood is fixed to the left end of the ruler. When the object the user wishes to measure is placed against the piece of wood, the end of the object is lined up with the zero mark of the ruler. |
Expected effects and results | The end of the object the user wishes to measure can easily be lined up with the zero mark on the ruler. Using this teaching material will enable visually impaired children to measure an object easily by feeling the relevant scale mark on the ruler. |
How to use | A 30-cm ruler for the visually impaired is fixed to a board and a small piece of wood that is higher than the board is attached to the ruler’s left end. To position an object for measurement, the user simply abuts its left-hand end against the protruding piece of wood, thus easily lining the end up with the zero mark. |
