Specific purposes |
・ To enable children to see the size of the Great Buddha’s hand so that they can imagine the hardships and aspirations of people at the time the statue was built ・ To make it easier for children to express their opinions on the construction of the Great Buddha ・ To teach children the relevant words |
Considerations for disability characteristics | ・ Showing children an actual-size hand of the statue of the Kamakura Buddha makes it easier for them to imagine how big the hand is and to express their opinions and other things in words. |
Expected effects and results |
・ The material encouraged children to imagine how big the statue is and to try to empathize with the hardships and aspirations of people at the time the statue was built. ・ The teaching material was also useful for studying other subjects (Japanese). |
How to use |
・ Draw the great Buddha’s hand in actual size on sheets of recycled paper joined together to make a giant sheet. ・ Place the sheet on the floor and then have each child add their handprint to it. ・ Have the children get on to the sheet and feel the size of the hand. ・ Pin the giant sheet of paper up in the classroom. ・ Draw lines on the sheet with a paintbrush. |
