Disability category | deaf and hard of hearing |
Teaching units / Applicable scenes | instruction of play |
Specific purposes |
・ To teach the joy of interacting with teachers, mothers, and friends through the use of a handmade teaching material created to capture the children’s interest ・ To bring out a wide range of expressions in children through the use of an attractive teaching material ・ To encourage spontaneous expression in the form of voice, facial expression, movement, and other means by developing the children’s rich emotions and happy emotional exchanges with others ・ To develop the children’s abilities of self-expression (which underlies words) and information absorption. Children will achieve these things by experiencing the happiness of communication through bodily movements and human interaction. |
Considerations for disability characteristics |
・ The teacher and others need to capture the flow of the children’s emotions and respond to it by using rich expressions and attractive movements. ・ The teacher and others need to accept the children’s output and expressions, and even when interacting with the children through expressions and movements, they should use words additionally when approaching the children to show them the teaching material. ・ Use a soft and soothing voice in a happy and relaxed atmosphere so that the children can freely give voice to their feelings. |

How to use |
・ The teacher handles, or interacts with, the original, hand-made teaching material (a small egg, a medium-sized egg, and a large egg containing a worm, a chick, and a monster, respectively) according to its characteristics. ・ Remove the chick, the worm, and the monster, in that order. The teacher, mother, or others, and the child, freely express the behavior of the chick, the worm, and the monster by using body movements, facial expressions, voices, and so on. (Chick ・・・ Cry “chirp, chirp” and have fun making the movement of a chick’s beak with your fingers.) (Worm ・・・ Not only the teacher, but also the mother, can wiggle their fingers as if a worm is moving and tickle the children.) (Monster ・・・ The teacher and the mother can open both hands and move like a monster, pretending to attack the children with a scary facial expression.) ・ Play the CD (see photo) and sing till the end of track one. While singing, enjoy the movements of the chick, be tickled by the mother worm, and, at the end, have fun being chased by the mother monster. ・ Turn the session into a monster-pretending game where both the adults and the children pretend to be monsters. Have the children chase the adults. |
