How to use |
Open up a daily newspaper, roll up the stack of opened up newspaper into the shape of a stick, and hold it in place by sticking some pieces of packing tape around it in three separate locations. Adjust the thickness of the newspaper stick according to the intended use. Depending on how it is to be used, the newspaper stick can be cut short or extended with another stick. When using the newspaper stick make sure you explain how it is to be used. It’s especially important that the children are warned not to brandish the stick, throw it, or use it to hit people or do anything potentially dangerous. 1) The students are paired and one student stands up straight and lifts both forearms in a way so that the upper arms are horizontal and the forearms are vertical, forming a right angle. The other student then places the newspaper stick on the student’s bent forearms. The student then balances the newspaper stick so that it doesn’t fall off the forearms. 2) The students are paired and one student sits down with both legs extended. The other student then places a newspaper stick on the student’s legs. The student balances the newspaper stick so that it doesn’t fall off the legs. 3) The students form a pair and each student holds a newspaper stick. The two students hold a balloon with the newspaper sticks and carry it in unison. 4) The students form a pair and each student holds a newspaper stick. The two students place a newspaper on the newspaper sticks and carry it in unison. 5) The students form a pair and both students stand on a piece of kogidai (play equipment that combines, for example, a ladder, slide, horizontal bar, and balance beam). Each student holds one end of the newspaper stick with one hand and then pushes and pulls the stick so that the other student falls off the kogidai. |
